Wired All Wrong — Break Out the Battle Tapes Buy it from InSound

Whatever happened to God Lives Underwater? Well Jeff Turzo leaves that band in the dust with his new project with Matt Mahaffey (sELF). Driving guitars crunch numbers with chord rattling and vocal manipulations that dominate choruses. Punctuating percussion that hammers away like a runaway sledgehammer provides the backdrop on which Wired All Wrong relies. Nice electronic rock tunes that rock your pants off.

"God Lives Underwater... Jeff Turzo leaves [them] in the dust"

Those are mighty strong words to paste, especially on a GLU forum. No wonder the previous WaW discussion got locked. :P

Despite, I do like the WaW album, yes it has a strong pop feel, and I don't like some of the singing, it still has that GLU sound but with a different twist, and bigger sound. I have a huge biased toward electro music, which this music only half delivers on it's ironic my favorite track is a pure rock song "Nothing At All", it's so silly and funky.

Keep in mind, I only pasted the review. I should have typed up a disclaimer ("this review does not reflect the views of it's paster...") or something. While I really do enjoy WaW, NO RECORD EVER RECORDED BY ANYONE HOLDS UP TO GOD LIVES UNDERWATER'S "LIFE IN THE SO-CALLED SPACE AGE". But WaW still is pretty funky. Speaking of, I heard "Lost Angeles" on my local radio station WEQX last night. Almost shattnered in me draws.

While I do appreciate those two records very much (and quite a bit more than almost any other records in my collection) I still rank Litscsa higher. I think that the lyric had matured a little more by then, and definently the music. The guitars on the two prior releases were very poorly produced. The songs were great, but it really seemed like american had just gotten the records out as fast as possible, while with "Life..." it sounds more like an honest pet project. Also, Litscsa, in my opinion, captures more of the difficult periods that both Jeff and David made note of. The record sounds like coming off of a three week binge and wanting more. It's a brilliant recording, intro to medicated. Not to mention, "life.." was the first glu record I had ever heard, so i am a bit biased.

The first time I heard anything for Litscsa was in Detroit, they played with Floureshein. I sat out there in the crowd with my jaw open thinking "Where are the guitars? What the hell was that? Is this really GLU?" and can honestly say I felt just about the same way when the record hit. It stayed in my CD player for about a month straight and slowly grew into a place of favorites, but still can't measure up to the craziness and rawness of the EP. But alas, that is just my opinion, and everyone is entilted to their own, right?

the great thing about UOTF was that it was like those two sides of glu finally came together in equal parts. For a while it was either 1 or the other. It was refreshing.
