So yeah, i called up a friend last night and asked him if he knew anyone that had a decent guitar/synth for sale, and he said he didnt... but then he said that he has had a really nice Ibanez laying around in his house for like 5 years... he said one of his best friends girlfriends brother (or something like that) gave it to him with some upgrades and asked him to fix it up, but then the guy ended up moving away and never called or came by... its been 5+ years now.

He said i can just HAVE it, for free. He said i DO need to take it to a shop and have something minor done to it (I forget what) but that it shouldnt cost more than 50 bucks...

It comes with a case and everything.

He even said he has a good amp and pedals and crap that i could at least borrow and mess around with, if not eventually have.

SHWEET.

He also said he just gave away a super nice synthesizer to his neice, but he would keep an ear out for anyone that is selling one for a decent price.

I asked a friend what sound card i should get, and he recommended the EMU 0404, its about 100 bucks and it has analog/digital in/outs...

I have reason 3.0 (and updates) and i have like 8gb worth of VSTs on my pc as well.

Can anyone suggest anything else i would need to tinker around with makin music?

Software/books/etc?

For the guitar, just take it to almost any music shop that does repairs/etc.., and tell them you need the guitar set up. Its rather inexpensive (come to think of it, mine is in major need of a setup I'm sure).

Errr heh i got the guitar today... he gave me a strap, a tuner, some books, a case, set of new strings, and some tool i forget the name of it.

Its an older mid 90s ibanez, its like an rx20, so its not super nice or anything... but its in excellent condition because it sat in his closet for 6 years.

It had a bunch of lame beavis and butthead and metallica stickers on it, i took em off.

It will work for my first guitar just to mess around on i suppose, and it was freeeeee.

He said that the guy upgraded the humbucker(s) and that the coils(?) attaching them needed to be connected... or something like that.

The shop closed today already, DAMN!

THE IGNORANT ONE ASKS: what is this "set-up" you speak about?

The guy at the guitar shop said this is all gonna cost me 30/40 bucks, 50 at the most.

i realised its missing the whammy bar too, but he said the Ibanez have a pop in whammy bar that can be removed and theyre 14 bucks and he will order one for me.

Yay.

I'm either going to buy an Audiophile 2496 or an E-Mu 0404.

They both seem to be about the same card...

I know i'm going to eventually need some monitors or really good headphones... i'm looking into that right now.

I would like to know how im going to be listening to this and anything else since these sound cards take over your pc...

I dont have a stereo receiver and a lot of people are saying they use those to listen to stuff.

Dammit...

I bid on this on ebay with 5 seconds left, and some bitch outbid me in under 5 seconds! And it was just the next bid up. shiiiit. (not this exact auction, but it went for 182 bucks)

http://cgi.ebay.com/Fender-G-Dec-Guitar ... dZViewItem

Maybe i'm better off buying an amp with some pedals anyway...

It just sounded so cool for a beginner...

Found a guy that's gonna sell it to me for 200 bucks, its like brand new and he has the sales receipt so it comes with a 5 year warranty...

If he doesn't sell it tomorrow, i'm gonna buy it.
