well, I had a half an hour, awesome, conversation with Dave's sister last night on the phone and we discussed a lot of things. Some legal, some personal, and some generic. All I can say at this time is that everything was positive, and moving forward at this time. When I can reveal more of what was discussed, at a later time, I will.

I know all of us here, are extremely psyched about this idea, Jawa, it's a very awesome way of "saying goodbye", I bet David never thought someone would ever write a book about him. I'm just happy we'll be able to read a first hand account about all these things we've heard so much about in the span of david's career, good, bad, or conversations about nights spent making fun of rap videos on BET! I know it's a very hard thing to do, thinking of someone in the past tense, I've had to do it in more than a few cases myself. But know this, It's worth it to have known the man. (I'm sure you know this more than anyone) Something most of us always wanted to do but never had the chance. things are always in a state of constant change (that's probably redundant), metamorphosis: roads get rocky, rain pours, while droughts take life away. I'm not sure I'm even making sense anymore. I guess I'm preaching to the choir on this one. I'll go ahead and end it here, because I'm not sure I know what I'm saying anymore, so take care everyone.
And Jawa, I cannot wait to read this.

Not only do I KNOW for a fact Dave never thought a book would be written about him (excpet MAYBE a paragraph blurb in some book about music in the late 90s where they mention All Wrong and From Your Mouth), but knowing Dave as well as I did, I also know that theres a large piece of him shaking his head right now. (I dont know if you guys read my blogs on the myspace page, but I talked about this in the blog sat night that I posted).

I always talked with his sister about the "direction" of the book, and we hashed some things out that are very positive, and I think will show everyone Dave much much more than the singer of a band and someone who struggled with addiction. 20% of the book will cover that, the other 80% is going to show Dave as a person, removed from the "stardom". I promise you that you will see him much differently when this is finished, through someone's eyes who looked at him more like a kid-brother.

And yes, it was worth to have known him but a piece has been ripped out of me that I have to deal with on a daily basis. I am very very flattered that everyone has given my such great confidence to be the one who writes this thing, I just hope that when its all done everyone will not be disssapointed with the book, especially Dave.

Definitely don't worry about 'disappointing everyone'.

With you doing what you are, I can't see a way you could disapoint anyone.

exactly. you doing something in his honor, i dont think this project you are embarking on (with that much love truth and positivity in mind) CAN fail, considering how much you FEEL. dont worry. everything will work out the way its supposed to and in the whole scheme of things, i think this is one of the most beautiful things someone can do for a loved one who has passed on. it shows how much someone else cared, and remembered the deceased, as well as becoming a way for their memory to live on, to passs on, to even more people. i think its going to be like a butterfly effect... some reader somewhere someday will open up BRIAN's book, and read it throughly, and its going to have such an impact on that person that could possibly alter their life, for the good, forever.

geez, and who better to write the book than someone who has so much love and regards for dave! this book is going to be amazing...

I'm not really worried about how it's going to come out. when something is done out of love and sincerity there's really not much that could ever be wrong with it. It's pure, you know. And I know that it's going to be good because it's about brian telling us about someone he loved and why he loved him. And that's a #### awesome thing.

Brian...i should probably email you his questyion...but... would you have ever been inspired to write this book EVEN IF dave was still here? or do you think, his leaving this world, like, triggered this idea of yours?

I kind of answered that in my blog comment on the myspace page: back in 1996 I was inspired to write a peom about him, which I did called "Feel Your Heavy Stare", I am going to include that poem in the book. Other than that, it was his passing that lead me to an actual book.
